Designing a Sophisticated Tuxedo Kitchen

In today’s standard of etiquette, black tie is the definition of sophistication and elegance. Taste-makers have revered the formal dress code as a symbol of refinement for centuries, and while it often refers to clothing, the same principles can also be applied to interior design. The Tuxedo Kitchen is the embodiment of black-tie sophistication. Pulling from a striking combination of black and white that is punctuated with rich materials and luxurious details, the Tuxedo Kitchen design elevates the home with timeless elegance.
If you’re drawn to the refined aesthetic of the Tuxedo Kitchen, consider these principles to help guide your design.

Sharp Contrast
No color combination is more chic than black and white. It’s modern yet timeless, and both bold and simplistic in equal measure. While black can sometimes be overpowering, correctly tempering the shade brings unmatched elegance to the kitchen design. Unexpected elements such as black quartzite countertops and powder coated metal inlays in cabinet doors command attention and guide the eye around the space. Maintaining the two-tone pallet also provides an ideal foundation to experiment with texture and movement while remaining sleek and sophisticated. Color and finish selections provide additional interpretations of the classic design for those who want to express their creativity without disrupting the timeless appeal. For example, creamy undertones can add warmth to bright white and matte finishes tilt the palette toward modern sensibilities.

Finished in matte black, Wood-Mode Vanguard cabinetry strikes an elegant balance between timeless sophistication and contemporary design.

Streamlined Sophistication
Taking its cue from fashion, the Tuxedo Kitchen emphasizes quality and attention to detail to establish its tailored appearance. Stylish and smart storage solutions keep the space uncluttered and countertops clear. Not only does this free up space but it also allows each element within the design to stand out in its own beauty. Patterns in countertops and details in cabinet doors transcend their purpose for functionality and enhance the ambience of the space.

An accent of Wood-Mode Rift-Cut White Oak cabinets in Spring Wheat add warmth to this modern take on the Tuxedo Kitchen design.
Pulling from a classic tuxedo palette, Cabri Designs selected Wood-Mode glass-front Presidio doors to create an elegant storage solution in this New Jersey home.

Elegant Accents
Keeping with its streamlined foundation, the Tuxedo Kitchen minimizes décor elements and instead leans into lighting, cabinet hardware, and faucets to accentuate the design. Accessories of chrome, bronze, and glass are punctuated against the black and white canvas. When décor is integrated, focus is on a single statement piece or heirloom item that adds visual interest. Practical items, such as service pieces or glassware, with stylish flair can also be used to accent the design and look especially elegant when displayed in glass-front cabinetry or open shelving. Fresh florals or botanicals add a hint of color while enhancing the luxurious quality of the space.

Wood-Mode cabinets in Nordic White beautifully complement accents of black and gold in this New England kitchen from The Design Studio.

Interior design speaks not only to our tastes and sensibilities but also to our aspirations and values. In this way, designing your dream kitchen is as much about the pastimes, traditions, and loved ones who make your house a home as it is a room’s aesthetic. Because of this, our dealers and designers approach each project from a mindset of working hand-in-hand to bring your unique vision for a life of beauty to reality.
